Death Valley fully embracing its water era.
When you think of
@deathvalleynps, kayaking probably isn't the first activity that comes to mind. Or that there are lakes. Yet here we are. Badwater Basin is the lowest elevation in North American and sits at 282 feet below sea level. It's normally a dry salt flat. However, the valley received 2.2 inches of rain during Hurricane Hilary on Aug. 20 and 1.5 inches of rain during an atmospheric river that passed through the area between Feb. 4 through Feb. 7. Currently, the temporary lake is about six miles long, three miles wide, and 1-2 feet deep. The lake will likely shrink as the park dries out but should create beautiful reflections through the spring.
