Therapist: You need to let people get close to you. Cactus: You want a piece of me? The saguaro can be a little prickly. And that’s ok. Did you know saguaros are also a very slow growing cactus? Nothing wrong with taking your time. In Saguaro National Park, studies indicate that a saguaro grows between 1 and 1.5 inches in the first eight years of its life. As a saguaro begins to age, growth rates vary depending on climate, precipitation and location. We do know that the period of greatest growth in a saguaro cactus is from unbranched to branched adult. (Having a good branch manager and an assistant TO the branch manager helps.) At Saguaro, branches normally begin to appear when the cactus reaches 50 to 70 years of age. In areas of lower precipitation, it may take up to 100 years before arms appear. 🌵 Image: Towering saguaro cactus ready to rumble. Though the Saguaro may prickle your fancy, please don’t engage.
