On July 6th, Sonya Massey called the police to her home on for a possible intruder alert and two police officers arrived. Based on the official police report, Sonya’s demeanor was described as “calm, perhaps unwell and not aggressive.”
One officer was clearing the house while the other began “aggressively yelling” at Massey to put down a pot of boiling water she removed from her stove, despite gaining permission to do so prior to.
Although she was in another room, Officer Grayson raised his weapon and threatened to shoot Massey in the face.
According to official documents, Massey put her hands in the air and said “I’m sorry” and ducked for cover. Grayson immediately shot three shots, striking Massey once in the face, which ultimately ended up being fatal.
Grayson, the 30-year-old Sheriff Deputy of Sangamon County, has been indicted by a grand jury on three counts of first-degree murder and one count each of aggravated battery...
