The Lake Oswego School District is weighing whether to close the district’s second oldest elementary school and lease the property to the wealthy suburb’s government for use as a new library.
But families at Lake Grove Elementary, which was built in 1949 and is the district’s only school in a commercial zone, are pushing back.
“It feels like (the district) is asking us to sacrifice our school for the greater good and that is not OK with us,” JulieAnna Giannini, a former Lake Grove parent, said. “I think they need to really look at creative solutions that can maximize revenue and maintain a school in Lake Grove.”
