For the already small percentage of students in our partner countries who do complete secondary school, their rates of enrollment in higher education are even more minimal.
For example, in Malawi, less than 1% of students successfully enroll in university, one of the lowest rates in the continent, and the world.
This limits the number of graduates in the country available to take on specialized and technical jobs, such as engineering, medicine, and law, contributing to "brain drain" that limits future economic and professional development.
Our 'Education Is Power' program emphasizes the importance of pursuing higher education, empowering students to understand how university is a stepping stone to their dreams, and why they must work hard in high school to get there.
We are thrilled that in the last school year, TWO of our Power students were accepted to local universities, and we are expecting to see many more enrollments after the next school year!
