STORY TIME: Retinal Detachment and Lattice Degeneration. I didn’t talk about this at all, but only posted a small video on TikTok- ever since then I’ve received several messages of people going through this.
Retinal detachment is where the retina, the thin layer of tissue at the back of the eye responsible for processing light, pulls away. Retina senses light and send signals to the brain, allowing you to see. When it detaches, it separates from the layer of blood vessels that provides it with oxygen.
Lattice degeneration affects the peripheral retina, the part of the retina located toward the edges of the eye. With this, the retina becomes thinned crossed blood vessels which led to a number of retinal holes and tears for me.
