Neck Deep, Reading and Leeds Festival
REVIEW: Neck Deep have always looked really at home on stages of this size. Of course, it's always been their ambition to be here, even when they were packing out sweaty clubs on either side of the Atlantic. But to see it in action, these wonderful misfits smashing it on the main stage at Reading Festival, is nothing short of stellar. Focusing on their more recent exploits, this set, their first of two today, feels like a celebration of where ten years of marching to your own beat can get you. ‘Heartbreak Of The Century’ and ‘Take Me With You’ feel monumentally fun in these surroundings, whilst seeing the off-kilter thrills of ‘Lowlife’ get its flowers alongside some serious pyro is awesome, to say the least. Though most vitally, Ben Barlow uses the band’s time in the spotlight to unify and inspire, reminding us how much better we are as a unit rather than divided, making the potent protest of ‘We Need More Bricks’ slam even harder.
