Denis Villeneuve has mapped out his exit from Arrakis. The filmmaker plans to make a third and final Dune film called Dune Messiah. Though Messiah is considered Dune 3, Villeneuve refuses to call his adaptations a trilogy. “It’s important that people understand that for me, it was really a diptych,” Villeneuve said in a new interview with Vanity Fair. “It was really a pair of movies that will be the adaptation of the first book. That’s done, and that’s finished. If I do a third one, which is in the writing process, it’s not like a trilogy.
