Making the music for The Portal was a peak experience for me. It is genre defying. It is a 10 min piece of music that goes from meditation, to cinematic sound scape, to spoken word and then in and out of several songs that cover several genres, more spoken word and then it ends in a dance song! I had no idea what category to submit it for - there is no poetry spoken word category and oddly no meditation or mental health music category. Like much of my career, I continue to be interested in exploring music beyond the silos that the music business is structured in… and I think many fans are the same. We like what we like. Johnny cash has more in common with The Sex Pistols than Kenny Rogers. Agree? Disagree? What category would you put The Portal in? Here is what I decided to submit it for:
