A big cat took a long nap Thursday morning after wandering onto a Newport dock, startling mariners and drawing Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife rangers armed with tranquilizer darts.
For reasons unknown, a mid-sized male cougar began nosing around the town’s Embarcadero Marina about 9:45 a.m., jumping aboard several boats, and giving quite the scare to those inside.
Wildlife personnel quickly cordoned off the area, leaving the prowling predator looking “a bit nervous” but still well behaved, at least for a wild animal, according to Lincoln County Sheriff’s Sgt. Patrick Dougherty.
