A prominent civil rights organization is putting the squeeze on Oregon’s embattled public defense agency for failing to discipline a top lawyer found to have retaliated against female attorneys.
An independent investigation determined in February that the Oregon Public Defense Commission’s general counsel, Eric Deitrick, was “motivated by retaliation” when he caused some women to be paid less than their colleagues or lose out on job opportunities.
Deitrick faced no discipline, except the requirement to attend a few online training courses.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Oregon — which first requested a workplace investigation of Dietrick’s conduct back in August 2021 — says that’s not good enough.
