Sandy and John Selby run a Harry Potter-themed display and attraction, which is free to the public. They have a red kettle for donations to the Salvation Army. The biggest challenge is parking — neighbors graciously allow visitors to park, but with over 1,000 people passing through, it can be quite difficult.
On average, Sandy Selby spent $1,400 on full-size candy bars for trick-or-treaters. However, she decided to switch things up and ran a poll on her Facebook page asking what she should give out instead. To her surprise, the trick-or-treaters voted for Ramen noodles. The idea was to provide something that wouldn’t be easily thrown away and would give kids access to food they could easily make at home. This year will be a bit different, as they are preparing special Harry Potter-themed goodies.
