As the 1993 NFL preseason got underway, Emmitt Smith, the backbone of Dallas’ mighty running game, was nowhere to be found. And the NFL’s leading rusher for two years in a row wasn’t going to report to camp until he had a contract that he felt was fair.
Unfortunately for him, however, he was negotiating against Jerry Jones. And what ensued was one of the most memorable contract disputes in NFL history.
