This cross-section of a stem of Aristolochia sipho—sometimes called Dutchman’s pipe—shows both the xylem and phloem, which are pipelines in #plants for transporting #water and #nutrients, respectively. The xylem is the bluish region with the large pores, while the phloem is the more whitish region, separated by the darker stripe of the vascular cambium, a region of #cells that divides to create secondary growth in the plant, increasing its thickness.
