If you see a burger stand in Los Angeles, they probably have a chili burger. This burger will have chili, pickles, tomatoes, and raw onions, resulting in an L.A. culinary creation Jonathan Gold once called “The Tom Bomb.” You’d be forgiven if you thought everyone was ripping off Original Tommy’s—the red-roofed institution that started the corner of Beverly and Rampart—because they’re the original, right? Wrong. There was an earlier Tommy, Tommy DeForest, who opened Ptomaine Tommy in 1913 in Lincoln Heights. Our resident Tom, tomexploresla brings us this report. What’s your favorite chili burger?
