When teaching a camp I often get asked if the moves are going to be too advanced for certain ages/levels. My opinion and goal is that every kid will be able to get the move. I always walk through the move step by step with them a few times before letting them go out to drill it on their own. As someone who’s constantly learning something new I understand firsthand how easy it is to forget all the points the coach mentioned when demonstrating the move. Second, I like asking the kids to recite what the directives are back to me as we move through it because it engages them and fosters good recall instead of being passive. Finally, I like to do perfect reps with the kids a few times so that they gain confidence knowing they got the move correctly. After that I let him practice it completely on their own.
