Why is everyone trying to be a rap star? Don’t get me wrong—I love my brothers tip and KillerMike, and they’re absolutely phenomenal at what they do. But here’s the truth: there’s only one of them, and we’ve got 40 million Black people in this country (and even more Latinos). So what are you doing to set yourself apart? Waiting around for someone who makes six figures? Only 6% of Black people earn $100,000 a year—those odds aren’t in your favor. But you know who consistently makes six figures? Engineers. Engineers earn, on average, $100K+ annually, yet only 3% of engineers are Black. Let that sink in. No one’s stopping us from becoming engineers. The opportunity is there, but we’ve got to take it.
