Last Friday’s meltdown at the Polk County administration building came a day after the swearing-in of two new supervisors and the appointment of a new chair. On one side was Supervisor Tom Hockensmith and County Administrator John Norris, and on the other, the new chair, Matt McCoy, who joined with new Supervisors Mark Holm and Jill Altringer to remove Norris.
Supervisor Angela Connolly tried to prevent the confrontation from coming to fisticuffs, according to the sheriff's report.
The coup attempt in which Holm and Altringer joined with McCoy in the quest to dethrone Norris, the holder of the top job within the state's largest county, as well as threats made by an elected official, has made for a messy spectacle. But it is one of many run-ins among top county officials.
