A new optical sensor can read braille at the speed of touch. The skin-tactile sensors combine speed with accuracy through the use of an optical fiber ring resonator embedded in soft PDMS material that acts like flexible optical skin. The flexible optical fiber resonator detects very small pressure differences while PDH frequency locking ensures stability and accuracy, even with changing light or power fluctuations. Machine learning further enhances the system, allowing it to quickly recognize Braille despite minor errors or pressure variations.
