As a part of the Photojournalism Capstone, students must complete 3 picture stories or photo essays. For our final in-depth project, I chose to do a photo essay about something very personal: my own journey with brain fog. See copy & captions below. COPY: Diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) at just nine years old, I have grown up intimately familiar with the condition’s physical toll. EDS is a group of genetic disorders affecting connective tissues that support the skin, bones, blood vessels, and vital organs. For me, it means living with chronic fatigue, fainting spells, joint dislocations, bone fractures, gastrointestinal issues, and brain fog. Now 21, I have undergone 11 surgeries—including ankle reconstruction and gallbladder removal—suffered over 35 bone fractures, and rely on six daily medications to manage my symptoms.
