New LiDAR technology offers superior spatial resolution, which could improve surveillance and monitoring in challenging conditions.
The single-photon time-of-flight depth imaging system measures the time it takes for a laser pulse to travel from the system to an object and back again to calculate the distance to that object. These time-of-flight measurements are repeated across various points on the object to create a 3D representation.
This single-photon time-of-flight LiDAR system can generate high-resolution 3D images of objects or scenes from distances of up to 1 kilometer and is twice as efficient as the detectors used in similar LiDAR systems.
