“On the outside we [student athletes] all look accomplished because of our dedication to both our sport and our studies, but the truth is that it’s a struggle for many of us every day. I want to speak out about the importance of raising awareness for mental health within collegiate athletics everywhere.” Growing up, Jeweliana Perez started playing softball to spend time with her friends but her passion for the sport quickly grew. She knew she wanted to play softball at a Division I level in college which inspired her to choose SDSU. As a student athlete, Perez is passionate about her sport as well as her academics.
