The Human Rights Council at ungeneva in
#Switzerland works to promote and protect human rights worldwide, ensuring that all people enjoy the rights guaranteed by international law and supporting those whose rights have been denied.
Made up of 47 countries elected by the General Assembly for three-year terms, the Council addresses human rights violations and issues recommendations to help resolve them. It also reviews the human rights records of all 193 UN member countries — the only process of this kind in existence.
On Monday,
#UnitedNations Secretary-General antonioguterres and other leaders will open the 58th session of the humanrightscouncil at the ‘Human Rights and Alliance of Civilizations’ room —where the ceiling features a striking artwork by Spanish abstract artist Miquel Barceló.
