Avant-garde jazz artist Shabaka Hutchings’ Thursday performance was an inquisitive masterpiece that transcended what we know about music. In collaboration with the alternative jazz series Left Field Jazz, True/False Film Fest put this event on the backdrop of The Blue Note, setting the stage for a night of breathtaking beauty. Shabaka and harpist Charles Overton fused to speak a new musical language, which took the better part of an hour to translate. Don’t confuse that for boredom though, I was entranced the whole time.
