First lady Melania Trump held an event in support of a bill that passed the Senate in the last Congress that would criminalize the nonconsensual publication of sexually exploitative images. The Take it Down Act, introduced by Sens. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., would require platforms to take down revenge porn images within 48 hours of notice. The bill would also extend to deepfake images created by artificial intelligence. It passed the Senate, but not the House in the last Congress. The senators reintroduced the legislation in January, which is also when the bill was unveiled in the House by a bipartisan group of lawmakers.
