Underpinning UC Berkeley’s world-renowned laboratories, research and numerous Nobel Prize winners lies a uniquely precise craft: scientific glassblowing.
West Berkeley’s Adams & Chittenden Scientific Glass Coop has supported research and development, both locally and internationally for more than 30 years.
The shop was founded in 1993 by Tom Adams and George Chittenden. While the original pair have stepped back from their glassblowing responsibilities, they converted the business to a worker-owned cooperative in 2019, according to Edith Salisbury, one of eight workers currently at the shop.
