When Tri-Valley senior Jenna Carmody drained a 3-pointer less than two minutes into her team's state Class B regional semifinal against Yonkers Montessori Academy, Carmody pulled within three points of 1,000 for her five-year varsity career and her team pulled within a point of YMA at 4-3.
It wasn't clear then but became apparent well before the first quarter ended that while Carmody would get and surpass the 1,000-point milestone, that would be one of the few things her team would end up being able to celebrate.
YMA expanded an 8-5 lead a little less than halfway through the first quarter to a 22-5 lead at the end of the quarter, en route to a dominating win.
The next step in the goal of making it to and winning a state championship will occur Sunday, when YMA faces Section 4 Chenango Forks in a Class B regional final. That game is scheduled to tip off at 10 a.m. in Binghamton at Visions Veterans Memorial Arena.
