A Texas midwife and medical assistant were arrested for allegedly providing illegal abortions and operating a network of unlicensed clinics in the Houston area, state attorney general Ken Paxton announced. Maria “Dr. Maria” Rojas and Jose Manuel Cendan Ley face the first criminal charges brought under the state’s near-total abortion ban.
