Water has been at the heart of our papermaking tradition since 1584. For more than four centuries, we at Hahnemühle have been using pure spring water from our own artesian wells to create the finest artist papers. This water is only “borrowed” from nature, flowing through a closed water cycle, reused multiple times, and returned to the nearby Ilme River in its purest form, free from chemical cleaning agents, biocides, and preservatives. Our sole production site, located in a protected landscape at the foot of the Solling, operates under strict environmental standards.
