This month, Muslims around the world are celebrating Ramadan, a month of fasting and reflection. 🌙🕌 Meet Alaa Elamin, BS '24 (neuroscience)!✨ For Alaa, Ramadan is all about community—sharing iftar, the fast-breaking evening meal, with family and friends, just like she did while hosting iftars with the Muslim Student Association. Bringing together students and staff of different faiths made the UO feel like home, and she loves seeing those traditions continue! Her go-to treat after iftar? Kunafa, a sweet tea pastry, with tea or coffee. ☕ Some of her favorite memories of Ramadan at the UO include late-night prayers at the local Islamic Center and early mornings with friends for suhoor, the pre-fasting meal. After graduating last spring, Alaa moved to Portland and is pursuing a PharmD at Oregon State University and OHSU while working as a pharmacy intern!
