Can I share a secret? I don’t really love most preplanned kids activities.
For me, they toe the line too close to stuctured and directed activities.
When I set up play prompts for kids, I want them to spark an interest and then have the children take the activity wherever it leads them. No set end goal in mind except for open ended play. I remember taking this video. She was around 3 years old. The big kids were at school. I’d just cleaned the living room. S was playing in the playroom quietly so I ran upstairs to take a shower. When I came back she was wearing a bathing suit and my living room had been turned into a stage for play. It was a great reminder that the best play often happens when we step back and give kids the freedom to create their own play worlds.
