#McLaren has revealed the W1 hypercar, successor to the P1. The W1’s heavily hybridized twin-turbo V-8 powertrain is set to deliver a peak system output of 1258 horsepower, all of which will be delivered through the rear wheels. Or, to reduce that to the lowest common denominator, 629 hp per tire — in a street-legal car.
When we spoke to McLaren boss Michael Leiters earlier this year, the former Ferrari executive said there was no reason for his new company to adopt AWD as long as its cars remained drivable without it. But even with smart traction management, and the W1’s ability to generate up to 2200 lbs of downforce, there’s no doubt the W1 will be one of the most extreme road cars the world has yet seen.
What are your thoughts on the new W1?
