How did two TKS students win first prize and a $10,000 grant at the 2022 Youth Impact Challenge? 🤯 Last year, Mehr Bains and Sophia Tang started their journeys at TKS and met for the first time. While at TKS, both developed an interest in leveraging the femtech space to address global problems that disproportionately impact women - cut scene to today, Mehr and Sophia have partnered to develop a social enterprise aiming to deliver a novel low-cost diagnostic tool for female genital schistosomiasis (FGS) and cervical cancer to women across sub-Saharan Africa: Amali. Currently, 56 million women and girls suffer from FGS, but schistosomiasis is still considered a disease that only impacts men. Despite the severity of symptoms, women rarely receive the necessary treatment for a disease that requires expensive equipment and specialized training to diagnose.
