It's not entirely accurate to say that Voltron is an adaptation of Beast King GoLion. World Events Productions did license the Beast King GoLion footage to create Voltron, but neither side expected Voltron to be a direct dub of GoLion. As we've discussed in previous posts about the development of the original Voltron series, the plan was to combine footage from three separate anime into a new original series, and those plans didn't even include GoLion at first. World Events Productions had the freedom to adapt the footage to meet their needs. This included keeping Sven, Nanny, and Zarkon alive even though their GoLion counterparts died, removing gore, and creating relationships between characters on previously unrelated series.
