‘BLADI’ my 1st self-portrait project!!🇲🇦🥹🎀🙏🩷⭐️🗽 Growing up, I was constantly made fun of for how little Darija I spoke, being too ‘American’ for Morocco but too ‘Moroccan’ for America. I ultimately existed in this imaginary, in-between space. But as I got older, and I worked endlessly on my Darija (and I continue to do so) and connect with my cultures even more, I reclaim this space through my art. I am proud to be born and raised in NYC and my roots from 🇲🇦 After sharing ‘BLADI’ online, I realized how many other children of the diaspora were in the same boat as me. I made this project for YOU. Don’t be ashamed of your accent when you speak Darija. Don’t be ashamed to be born and raised somewhere else. Because YOU bring a perspective no one else has. What about you guys?
