Unlike regular tornadoes, which last for minutes, fire tornadoes can disappear within seconds or persist for much longer, spreading embers and igniting new fires in their path.
In 2003, a fire tornado in Canberra generated wind speeds of 160 mph (260 km/h), strong enough to flip cars and uproot trees. These deadly whirlwinds are rare but incredibly destructive, turning already dangerous wildfires into unstoppable infernos.
