Today, I’m taking them to the next level with my English Muffin Croque Monsieur. Rich béchamel sauce, savory ham and melty Gruyère, all stacked on a perfectly toasted Wolferman’s muffin. Ingredients
For the Sandwiches:
6 English Wolferman’s English Muffins, split
6 slices of ham
4 oz Gruyère cheese, shredded
Fresh chives, for garnish
For the Béchamel Sauce:
4 tbsp butter
4 tbsp flour
2 cups milk
Salt and black pepper, to taste
Pinch of nutmeg
1 tbsp Dijon mustard
Instructions
In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
Add the flour and whisk continuously for about 1–2 minutes until lightly golden.
Slowly pour in the milk, whisking constantly to prevent lumps.
