SOUND ON 🔈Sam Giarratani’s billboard, “The Only Difference Was the Cadillac,” harkens back to the Combat Zone, an area in Boston known for its adult entertainment in the later half of the 20th century, and features a bold and effervescent subject: her grandmother.⁠ ⁠ “As injustices to women’s and trans bodies are not being tolerated without a collective fight,” Sam reflects, “and society [is now] filled with people like me—a single, childless woman approaching 40 with her own business—what would they say if able to control their own narratives, and in turn, how would they live the lives they want to lead?”⁠ ⁠ Sam is an artist-producer working at the intersection of public art and social justice.
