Here’s the deal - As a creative, you HAVE to show the value of what you offer. If I showed you a cardboard box and asked you to buy it for $20 without showing you what’s inside, would you do it? Now imagine if I asked you to buy it for $20 after showing you that the box contained a brand new iPhone? Now $20 doesn’t seem like such a bad deal because I showed you the VALUE of the box. Asking a client to tell you their budget before ever discussing their vision or the special celebration they’re about to have is like asking them to buy a box without knowing what’s inside. No one, and I mean NO ONE, knows what luxury balloon designs cost unless they’ve done them before - heck, even a lot of balloon stylists don’t even know how much to charge. So why are we assuming that our client is going to give us a realistic budget without ever speaking to us? It’s our job to first connect with the client, understand their vision, then set realistic expectations for what that vision will cost. He...
