A Nevada mother has warned of the dangers of e-cigarettes after her 17-year-old cheerleader daughter developed a rare, life-long lung condition linked to vaping. Brianne Cullen started using disposable vapes at 14 to cope with anxiety after the COVID-19 lockdown. Four months ago, she suddenly struggled to breathe and was rushed to the ER. Doctors diagnosed her with bronchiolitis obliterans, or ‘popcorn lung’ — a serious disease that scars the lungs' smallest airways. Steroids and an inhaler can reduce inflammation and help with breathing, but in severe cases, a lung transplant may be required. Sufferers require life-long care to manage their symptoms and are advised to avoid air pollution, cigarette smoke and people who are unwell, who could pass on infections.
