According to a study co-published in September 2024 by Michael Reich, chair of the Center on Wage and Employment Dynamics, or CWED, and professor of economics at UC Berkeley, this policy, Assembly Bill 1228, has not led to major job losses.
In the study, he and Denis Sosinskiy, Ph.D. candidate at UC Davis and graduate student researcher at CWED, found the policy raised average hourly pay without reducing employment.
