Meet Deon Rodrigues, a senior majoring in Criminal Justice and Forensics at the University of Texas at Arlington.
Originally from India, Rodrigues joined
#ArmyROTC for the financial benefits and a sense of independence.
“I always wanted to serve. When I joined UTA I saw a few people walking around in uniforms, and that ignited a spark in me to go do it. I wanted to start a legacy, since I am the first in my family to join the military and I also wanted to make a name for myself.”
Rodrigues is an active student and ROTC cadet. He is currently the Student Body President and on the UT System of Advisory Council. He serves as a Student Life Enhancement Advisor for Downtown Arlington and a student liaison for the UT System Board of Regents. He’s also a member of the Maverick Battalion’s Ranger Challenge team and served as the Cadet Battalion Sergeant Major.
