Vladimir Putin has announced a ceasefire in Ukraine to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and has urged Kyiv to do the same. Moscow said the 72-hour ceasefire would run from the start of May 8 to the end of May 10, and Russia called on Ukraine to join it as well. 'Russia believes that the Ukrainian side should follow this example,' the Kremlin said. In the event of violations by the Ukrainian side, Russia's armed forces would give an 'adequate and effective response,' the statement said.
