After coming to an abrupt conclusion in 2023, a treasured biannual book sale is starting a new chapter with a different organization. Hosted by ppnorthcentralstates, the storied book sale came to a screeching halt on the heels of its 60th anniversary when the city of Des Moines sought to use eminent domain to acquire the warehouse where the books were stored. The sale now will make a comeback in a new partnership with the Young Women's Resource Center, a Des Moines metro nonprofit dedicated to supporting and advocating for young women ages 10 to 24. ywrcgirls leaders and book sale volunteers say the new partnership puts a system in place to keep the book sale alive for generations to come.
