A satellite caught four "dramatic" filament eruptions off the surface of the sun within 24 hours, the NOAA Satellite and Information Service said on Wednesday.
“These filaments are comprised of long strands of cooler, denser plasma that lift off the sun’s surface," NOAA said. According to the agency, filaments occasionally blow off the surface of the sun and can cause space weather effects on Earth if their paths intersect. In this case, the eruptions were pointed away from Earth.
