An Iowa nonprofit that works with immigrants is pushing back against a letter it received earlier this year from the chair of the state House Government Oversight Committee demanding sensitive information about the group's work. The letter, sent Feb. 24 by the committee's chair, Rep. Charley Thomson, R-Charles City, directs the Iowa Migrant Movement for Justice to turn over tax documents, donor information, the group's full membership list and information on clients who have received services from the group. The organization rejected Thomson's demand in a response sent April 18. It says Thomson is demanding information protected by attorney-client privilege and his request serves no valid legislative purpose. Thomson, through a spokesperson for House Republicans, declined to comment. Tap the link in our bio for more on this story. #Iowa #IApolitics #IAlegis
