Pete Rose was reinstated by Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred on Tuesday, making him eligible for the sport's Hall of Fame after his career was tarnished by a sports gambling scandal. Manfred announced that he was changing the league's policy on permanent ineligibility, saying bans would expire at death. Rose was among 17 total players reinstated Tuesday. William Rhoden, a sports writer and ESPN columnist, called Manfred's decision to lift the bans posthumously "bizarre." "What you're saying is that, it's not much that what you did was wrong, we're just going to let you die," Rhoden told vladduthierscbs. "Now once you die, you can't enjoy it, now we're going to put you in the Hall of Fame." #peterose #reds #mlb
