Not long after becoming a registered pharmacist, #Walgreens founder Charles R. Walgreen Sr. enlisted to serve in the Spanish-American War in 1898. Hi s main assignment was in the dispensary in at the hospital in Siboney, Cuba. At one point, Walgreen came down with yellow fever, complicated by malaria, and fell into unconsciousness. His name even inaccurately appeared on the casualty list under “Dead.” But when Walgreen emerged from his comatose state, he was discharged. It wasn’t until Walgreen returned home from war that the foundations for the Walgreens company were laid.
