What happened to Jack MacKenzie on Saturday must be a turning point for Scottish football. The Aberdeen defender was left bloodied after being struck by a seat thrown by his own fans, during chaotic scenes that followed the final league match of the season. As Dundee United supporters invaded the pitch, tensions spilled over, and a player paid the price. 🎙️ PFA Scotland’s Fraser Wishart: “I’ve been warning for a long time that something like this would happen. These incidents are on the rise.” This isn’t just a Scottish problem, it’s a global one. A #FIFPRO survey found that 76% of player unions believe safety is a growing concern in professional football. Abuse and violence are becoming alarmingly normalised, and the cost to players’ health and wellbeing is too high to ignore. It shouldn’t take another incident for action to be taken. Stronger safeguards, tougher sanctions, and real solutions are long overdue.
