“My work primarily draws inspiration from personal experience and nostalgic elements from childhood. While it may not directly tackle large-scale global issues, I believe it can have a subtle yet meaningful impact on individuals and communities.”- Shushank Shrestha (shushank17)
In “Playing with Clay,” an interview with the Rubin’s Director of Global Projects and Collections, Michelle Bennett Simorella, artist Shushank Shrestha unpacks his inspirations, desire to elicit joy, and the impact of engaging with modern culture through the lens of traditional Nepalese art.
Shushank’s “Male and Female Guardian Dog” and “Uber Rat” were featured in the Rubin’s past exhibition “Reimagine: Himalayan Art Now.” “Uber Rat” was recently acquired into our contemporary collection, continuing a commitment to broadening the understanding of Himalayan art and supporting living artists from the region.
